“If Mina Cucina doesn’t cook, there can be no accidents,” explained Spaghetti Giraffe. “And if there are no accidents, there can be no new animals born.”
The under-cooker animals want babies. But Mina Cucina has given up cooking – it’s far too dangerous.
Can Spaghetti Giraffe and the under-cooker animals get her to change her mind? Or will Mrs Zola’s schemes to clean under the cooker put an end to their plans?
Another charming adventure from The Spaghetti Giraffe series – Storylines Notable Book Award 2018.
How I wrote the book
I couldn’t not write this book really!
Ever since the world of Spaghetti Giraffe and his friends came to me, and then grew and grew in the way that story worlds tend to do, I knew there would be three books (also called a trilogy). I knew there would be different parts of Spaghetti Giraffe’s life that I wanted to explore and have fun with.
For a long time, the story was just a hand-written outline on a piece of paper. When I wrote the second book in the trilogy, the outline grew a bit as I shifted ideas around and saved some for later. I was working on the structure of the trilogy as a whole at the same time as I was working out the earlier stories.
This meant by the time I got to book three, I had a pretty clear idea of what was going to happen and how it was going to end. But I still enjoyed writing it. Writing is such a process of discovery. There’s always twists and surprises that you never foresee, new possibilities to be followed and explored.
I guess you could say in this third book, Spaghetti Giraffe is more grown up. He wants to start a family! But at heart he’s still as young and wonderstruck by the world as he’s always been, and gets into just as many pickles and scrapes, several involving cake! Of course!
